Autumn foliage in Piedmont

Atualizado: 25 de out. de 2022

Fall foliage is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Here in Italy, this time of year is known as foliage, a true spectacle of nature, coinciding with the most expressive time of the autumn season. The colorful leaves of the trees are the main protagonists, when nature strips itself of its green, giving life to a memorable landscape.

The Piemonte Region is the ideal destination to experience this season to the fullest, with its hills and forests that light up and are colored in a thousand shades.

We have selected some of the most characteristic destinations to admire the most intense and romantic colors of the Piedmont region.

The Foliage Train

Traveling through the foliage on board a train is possible.

The Foliage Train is a unique and fascinating experience to admire the countless nuances of this season. A journey of inspiration and relaxation, on a route of 52 kilometers, alternating with stops along the way, until reaching Locarno in Switzerland.

Monferrato and the Langhe between truffles and wines

With its splendid hills covered with vines that change color according to the seasons, Monferrato and the Langhe, one of the pearls of Piedmont, are perfect for admiring the foliage. But among the many autumn colors, there are those who love two, in particular, the white and black, those of the Monferrato truffle.

Monferrato and the Langhe are home to great wines, truffles, and Piedmontese cuisine.

Between October and November, there is no shortage of opportunities to taste the white truffle and the black truffle.

The Langa, once a wild, difficult and impenetrable place, today welcomes you with its intact and unchanged, yet very sweet and soothing landscape.

Following hidden streets, away from the main roads, it's possible to enjoy spectacular views that stretch as far as the eye can see up to the Alps.

On this journey to discover some of the finest wines of the area we recommend a small itinerary that goes touches six of the most characteristic villages.

Let's start with Verduno with its Belvedere, on the top of the town, which is one of the most spectacular and romantic viewpoints in the entire territory. Verduno is also architectural beauty that blends with great wines. Here was witnessed the birth of one of the first Barolos in history.

La Morra is one of the recognized capitals of Barolo. The ancient main road climbs steeply towards the center and reaches the Belvedere, a grandiose balcony stretching out over the Langhe and the Alps, which offers a superb and unparalleled spectacle.

Along the panoramic provincial road from Barolo, you reach Vergne, where you can admire some of the murals that focus on "Aspects of peasant life", made by painters from Langa.

Always following the same panoramic road, you arrive at the village of Novello, located on top of a hill surrounded by vineyards. This small village holds small treasures from the Baroque era.

Monchiero is a town that lies on the wide valley floor. A walk in the village of Monchiero Alto is a must, which will impress you with its charm, the particular atmosphere you breathe, and the enchanting landscape.

From Monchiero along the valley floor, you reach Dogliani, surrounded by a thousand geometries of vineyards and cultivated fields. Dogliani is synonymous with "Dolcetto", the wine shop, born with the aim of enhancing and promoting the "Dolcetto di Dogliani".

When travel mixes with taste, magical alchemy is born that is hard to forget.
